Why store don’t have summer clothes

February 27th, 2012 No comments

I am planning to go away for a long weekend before the summer is over. In checking my clothes for the trip, I realized I could use a new pair of cotton trousers and a summer sweater. Well, when I looked in the stores, I couldn’t find a single pair of summer pants left in my size and the only sweaters around was wool or heavy cotton for fall. Its summer and it’s hot. Why don’t the stores have summer clothes? Read more…

What do your shoes say about you?

February 25th, 2012 No comments

Like it or not, shoes (and therefore boots) can say a lot about you, and choosing the right footwear for the right occasion isn’t always easy.

Women have the art of shoe-selecting down to a tee: there are hundreds of styles and designs to choose from for absolutely any occasion. But when it comes to men’s shoes – well, it can be slightly harder to know which ones to pick.
Some brands, though, make the job quite a bit easier. The old classic Timberland, for example, has a range with designs that are ideal for any event, making the decision making process a doddle.

A lot has been said about shoes – how they reflect our tastes and personality. No one believes this more than media personality Donna Sozio, self-proclaimed shoe-ologist and author of Never Trust A Man In Alligator Loafers: What His Shoes Really Say About His True Love Potential. According to Donna, who is also a dating expert to boot (pardon the pun), “men’s shoes aren’t just shoes”.

Donna believes that it’s possible to “de-code a man in a minute as a date or a mate – all by looking at his shoes.”
Speaking to MSN Lifestyle Online, Donna explained: “The shoes a man wears and the way that he treats them are fail-safe indicators of not only his romantic personality, but also how he’ll treat his woman.”

For Donna, men who wear Timberland shoes “are impulsively adventurous, so they look for women who won’t make them feel restrained.”

Considering that the Timberland brand is a predominantly outdoor footwear range, it’s no surprise that the type of man who’d be drawn to its designs would be the adventurous, outdoor type.

Whether you get your hands on a pair for dating purposes or for hiking in the great outdoors, there’s no doubt that Timberland shoes offer men something slightly different. And if you’re going to be judged by your footwear, then that can only be a good thing, now, can’t it?

Critics will go for your throat when sizing you up for being properly dressed

February 25th, 2012 No comments

Most of us know at least one person who blatantly breaks some basic rule of what is considered to be proper dress. He does it to proclaim – loudly – his difference from the crowd, his individuality. But most people – especially men – are uncomfortable with anything that is too eye-catching. Read more…

Timberland’s growing high street popularity

February 24th, 2012 No comments

Timberland is an unusual company. Established in 1952 in Abingdon, Massachusetts, the brand was launched as a designer of outdoor wear by Nathan Swartz, who had trained as a shoemaker. Even to this day, Timberland considers itself, by and large, as a company that makes footwear designed with hiking and other outdoor activities in mind.
However, in recent years, Timberland shoes and boots have become a popular choice for high street fashionistas. Its boots are no longer just for trekking through deserts or scaling formidable mountains. Indeed, Timberland boots have now become a fashion statement.

So, why the sudden surge in popularity for the brand in fashionable circles? Like most trends, it would seem Timberland’s growing high street success stems from celebrity endorsement. And not necessarily from names you’d expect.

A few obvious fans of the brand include actor and Hollywood tough man, Mark Wahlberg, who was seen wearing the boots out and about with his family, while rapper, producer and richest man in music, Jay-Z and R & B singer Chris Brown have also helped to locate the brand within the wider conscience of various age groups.

This could help to explain why the brand is so popular with men, but many female celebrities and models have also taken a liking to the brand, which could account for the growing interest in Timberlands from fashion-forward ladies.
Eliza Dushku, the American actress known for her roles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and its spin off Angel, has been seen wearing Timberland boots, as has the musician Sky Ferreira. And at a recent photo shoot, the English BAFTA winning actress and model, Keira Knightley, wore a pair of high top Timberlands.

Thankfully, then, it seems as though Timberland’s designs aren’t going anywhere. The beauty of them is that they can be easily incorporated into any outfit. For a really casual look, you could try pairing the boots with a hoody and loose fitting jeans, or for something smarter you can easily dress them up with a shirt.

For the ladies, Sky Ferreira did it best, making the most out of the boots and turning them into the focal point of her outfit by pairing them with denim shorts and a loose fitting, casual t-shirt.

What fabrics are the most comfortable for suits and shirts?

February 23rd, 2012 No comments

It’s hard to understand why men choose hot, sticky suits to wear in hot, sticky weather. Even those who wear pure wool in winter tend to select synthetic blends in summer. They don’t seem to realize how much better all-natural fibers feel and look. A feathery, lightweight 100 percent wool suit, known as tropical weight worsted (7- or 8-ounce fabric), is more comfortable than a blend. So are suits made of all cotton poplin or seersucker? Unlike polyesters that don’t breathe, natural fibers “wick away“ body moisture. And, yes, they do wrinkle. Read more…

For classic clothes try shaving sheep

February 15th, 2012 No comments

From sheep to sweater, the workmanship of wool craftsmen is being celebrated at several pioneer museums this weekend and next. A visit tomorrow to Century Village’s Pioneer Sheep and Wool Craft Day will show how important sheep were to early settlers. Almost every pioneer family had its own flock, which provided necessities from trousers to blankets – and even the occasional Christmas tree ornament. Read more…
